Misc. Sketches 2014-2017

Designed as a birthday present for my uncle, it was an adaption of the Greek figure Triton, planned to feature in a Hercules adaptation I was exploring.

In ancient Greek myth, the Hydra was described as living in the Lernaean swamps, so I designed the creature based loosely off of crocodilians and snapping turtles.

Some ideas I've explored were a bit more mature and strange, which would have been a part of a fictional bestiary documenting the various types of Nymphs from Greek myth.

One of many sketches I made in an attempt to design an adaptation of the Siren/Naiad myth from Greek mythology. The numbers were associated with an animal anatomy reference document posted on a forum documenting the design process.

A later exploration of the Siren, where they were very much meant to be presented as alluring but predatory creatures, using an addictive pheromone instead of song to pacify their victims.

I was always inspired by the Dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park, both from a behavioral and visual standpoint, and wanted to have her "hair" raise up like a cobra when agitated.

I spent a great deal of time struggling with the anatomy of the skull and jaws, trying to figure out how they could remain attractive while enabling them to expand their jaws to a horrifying extreme.

Inspired by Japanese Tokusatsu, it was meant to be a type of minion formed from the ground... predating the adaptation of the Putty Patrol for the Power Rangers reboot film by 3 years!

Another Tokusatsu themed design, this would have been the heroic main character, a being combining aspects of Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and even Astro Boy.

One of two ideas for original Kaiju designs, Rhigon is a monster that embodies the Earth itself, consuming rocks and metal to grow its rock like shell.

Domoranah [a crude combination of the Japanese word for Wolf combined with Piranha] was created in parallel to Rhigon as a sea Kaiju, and a vicious predator.

This one has a rather weird history, a Godzilla fan-fic character that I decided to evolve into an original character that uses the crystal in her chest to transform into different monstrous forms.

Represented here are some of my favorite and well done traditional sketches, done during a time where I used to draw a lot more, before I realized I enjoyed 3D modeling more. They represent ideas involving adaptations of Greek myths, explorations of Sirens as a metaphor for addictive self destruction, and some original ideas inspired by Tokusatsu and Kaiju shows... plus a piece of SCP-Foundation fan-art for good measure!
